BIG boy bed

Well it has finally happened, Cayden got the boot! He spent the first year of his life sleeping in a play yard next to my bed and one night Cayden fell asleep in the bed with us and I was getting up to put him in his bed when Will said, "Tiff, he isn't going to sleep with us forever". So that was all I needed. He has been there ever since.

We let him watch a little TV(Wow wow Wuzbby), like usual then the TV goes off and it's time for night, night. I decided to move his bed into our room yesterday. :( As I was bringing his bed down Cayden got really upset. I told him that he was going to have a bed to sleep in like mommy and daddy. He said, "No mommy I want to sleep in bed upstairs!" Well, I need small steps; I'm just not ready for that yet!

I let him help me put his bed back together and I just needed to get and rail to keep him from falling off in the middle of the night.

Bed time comes and he was so excited to lay and watch TV in his bed. Will brought him a little bedtime snack! He was so proud of his own space. When it was time to turn off the TV I asked him if he wanted to sleep in his bed or ours. He said that he was sleeping in his bed. It took him a little longer to fall asleep. He said he was scared when I went in to check on him. So, I assured him that he could sleep in our bed. I mean we didn't even have the guard rail yet. Cayden said no. So we prayed, then off to sleep he went. We waited a little while then we went to bed. I wanted so badly to put my little snuggle bear back in the bed with me, but I just had to remember that proud look on his face when he went to sleep. We stacked a ton of pillows to catch his fall. I was sure he would roll off.

I heard every move, cough, anything, and I would wake up ready to catch my baby and put him back where he belongs. I finally fell into a good sleep, when daddy's alarm went off (530am). We don't usually wake up until later, but this morning was much different. Cayden had officially made it in his own bed. To my surprise he didn't even roll off!!! Cayden woke up and smiled and said, "I gonna go to work in the morning!" He just kept talking and talking. I played it up and acted like I was so happy for him. I of course asked him if he wanted to get in the bed and watch cartoons. To my surprise again, he said no I'm fine, I want my bed. :( So I turned on the TV and he watch some am cartoons. Will woke up and Cayden said, "He daddy, I slept in my Big Boy Bed, time to go to work".

Needless to say we did not go back to sleep! We always talk about the sun waking up, so I was hoping to catch a beautiful sunrise. Since tropical storm Hanna was here, there was no way we could see the sunrise. I decided to take Cayden to the water before it got super windy. We drove out to the water to look at the waves and I wanted to explain what was going to happen today. I am so glad I did. He spent the rest of the day saying, "It just windy, I told you".

What a big step, probably more for me than him! There will be many more of the moments to come where I am screaming, no please let me hold you a little longer. But I will rejoice in watching our little boy grow up! I will choose to focus on the firsts rather than the lasts. I will smile big and cry silently!
