So my husband decided to fix our dryer ventilation last night. With a box cutter he decided to cut a hole in the ceiling. Once he got into the ceiling and cut the dryer vent his says hmmm....this feels kinda heavy. So my first most helpful response was, "Yeah, ummmm can you call one of your friends to come over, I am not catching a bird!" There is something about crawl spaces, attics, sheds, and places that are not usually heavily populated by people that I have a problem with. I guess knowing that there could possibly be some dead or alive rodent somewhere kinda freaks me out. Anyway, Will calls one of his friends and the go get all the necessary equipment and return. They opened the pipe pulled out only a little bird's nest and we thought we were finished. Yeah, that was super easy, nothing nasty here. Under further investigation my husband realizes that the duct he cut wasn't the dryer duct. It was the air conditioner duct. He figures out where the dryer duct is and cuts another hole in the ceiling (he actually has a dry wall cutter now). We find two more ducts side by side and guess what they both have bird's nest in them. Yuk! The dryer vent had a lot of crap in it. There was even a skeleton of a bird covered with lint.....thank you Lord that my house never caught on fire. The other vent was another air conditioner vent (we have a/c units) and it had a huge bird's nest in it. I thought I saw something kinda grayish in it, but Will says not.
So now we are birdy free and all patched up. We still have a little work to do on the ceiling and unfortunately Will is going to cut another small hole to check a small leak around the same area. Most importantly, they are gone and no more hard towels and jeans, crunchy socks and under ware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
